About MPC Missions
Mission Ministry at Memorial Park Church

Memorial Park is grateful to be in partnership with 60 local, national, and international mission partners.  In 2003, 23.7% of the church budget ($447,800) was allocated for missions (and $70,602 was received in designated giving beyond the budget).

A seven-member mission steering committee meets monthly to handle the “business” and planning of mission ministry.  This frees up other church members to “do” mission ministry.

Please see the other pages in the mission section of the webpage to learn about our mission partners, MPC mission ministries, calendar of events, volunteering locally, short-term mission trips, and mission resources.

Memorial Park would welcome the participation of Pittsburgh and Western PA churches in any of these mission ministries in which we are involved:

Northeast Brazil partnership – MPC has a partnership with a small Presbyterian church and preschool in Northeast Brazil.  Four other Presbyterian churches in Pittsburgh partner with churches in NE Brazil (forming a network in Pittsburgh which is part of a larger network of 60 PCUSA churches).  US churches visit NE Brazil each year.  Your church is welcome to learn more about the church planting and holistic ministry being done by Brazilian Presbyterians.

Friends of Angus (FOA) is a network of churches and missionaries committed to seeing an indigenous church planted among the Muslim Angus people of South Asia.  The Beulah and Mt. Lebanon Presbyterian Churches (of Pittsburgh Presbytery) are also part of FOA.  More partners are needed.  MPC is in a similar partnership on behalf of the Kurds.  Both partnerships hold annual meetings.  Memorial Park also supports workers serving among the Angus and Kurds.

Programa Niños de la Calle (Street Children Program) is a World Vision [evangelism and holistic] ministry to street children in Mexico City.  Additional funding is needed for this growing ministry.  Half of the money from MPC’s Lenten Love Loaves (about $4000) is given to this ministry.

Costa Rica medical mission – From 2001-2004, Memorial Park sent four medical teams to partner with Costa Rican missionary doctors to provide medical care for the Guaymi Indians of southern Costa Rica (while members of Costa Rican churches provide evangelistic ministry).  Medical Mission for Christ desires to receive U.S. medical teams several times per year.  Your church could send a team, doctor or nurse.

Perspectives on the World Christian Movement is a fifteen-week discipleship course from the U.S. Center for World Mission, which has been offered in Pittsburgh and Mercer County for the last several years.  Churches are needed to host the class, and more importantly, to send students to the class.  Jen Haddox is the Western PA coordinator for Perspectives.
