Tutors/mentors are needed in all subjects (for all grades) for 1-2 hours/week.  Training is provided and no experience is necessary.  Office volunteers are needed to answer phones and to help with mailings and office tasks.  Book sale volunteers and books are needed for the annual used book sale fund-raiser that is held each June at the Northway Mall.  In the fall, volunteers are also needed for the annual Golf Classic.

 • Tutors are needed one day per week (M–F, from 4–5 or 5–6 p.m.) for the    after-school program.  A training session is provided.
 • Small groups, families, and college students can participate in their weekend    service retreats, which are held several times per year.  Participants stay at The    Project and help with home repairs for those in need.

 
Pregnancy Care Centers

 • Donations of maternity clothes, baby clothes, baby furniture, and baby care    items are always needed.  A small group can hold a “baby shower” for an    unknown PCC client.  Group members bring baby gifts to the small group
    “shower” which are then donated to the PCC.
 • The annual Walk-for-Life fund-raiser is held at North Park.
 • Volunteers are needed to counsel women facing crisis pregnancies.  Training is    provided.  Hotline workers, parent support visitors, and receptionists are    needed.
 • The Centers accept donations of restroom items and coffee, tea, and cocoa to    be used for clients.  Children’s picture Bibles and Hope Bibles for women are    also accepted.

 • Families or individuals can host a student for one year.  This involves    contacting the student once a month.  Families or individuals can host a student    for just a Thanksgiving or Easter meal.
 • The annual Garage Giveaway is in late August.  Donations of household items    and furniture are needed (especially desks, beds, lamps, dishes and linens).     Bring items to Memorial Park on the Wednesday and Thursday before the    Giveaway.  Volunteers are needed to transport the items to Oakland on    Thursday evening.  Help is also needed on Saturday to greet International    students receiving items and to help them to transport items from Bellefield    Church to apartments in Oakland.

Young Life always needs volunteers, especially college students and young adults, to help with their weekly Club meetings for teenagers.  Volunteers are also needed to serve as committee members and to assist with fund-raisers and other special events.

 • Provide Newcomer Packages (toiletries for men) or Holiday Gift Packages    (toiletries, cookies, candy etc.) for the family assistance program.
 • Provide sheets (single beds), blankets, pillowcases, towels, or men’s clothing    (hats, gloves, socks, etc.) for the men in the overnight shelter.  New and used     coats are collected in October.
 • Children’s clothing (coats, hats, gloves, etc.), toys, & baby clothes/items are    needed.
 • The Community Resource Center (915 Western Ave.) accepts (and picks up)    donations of furniture, clothing and non-perishable food items.

 • Groups or individuals are needed to serve lunch meals at the Mission (and to    senior citizen high rises) on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Good Friday.     Call at least six weeks ahead.  Volunteers are also needed to serve breakfast    and dinner.  Meals are served seven days per week from 8:00–9:00 a.m. and    5:00–6:00 p.m., plus set-up and clean-up.  Volunteers must be age 12 and    over, and those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
 • Provide childcare for women in the family assistance program from 9:00    a.m.–2:00 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday or Thursday. Tutor adults preparing    for GED exams (on Monday evenings for men and Thursday evening for    women).  Men can serve as shelter assistants (welcoming new men) from    6:00–9:00 p.m.
