Deacon Committees
2006 Elders & Deacons
Much of the hands-on work of the church is overseen by the members of the Board of Deacons – but you don’t have to be a deacon to lend a hand! If your gift is service, consider helping with some of the vital, behind-the-scenes work in one of the following areas:
Care Committee
The Care Committee helps with practical needs, like providing rides to church or meals for church families during difficult times, etc. They also handle requests for financial assistance to church families experiencing crisis.
Church Picnic
The church picnic is held in August each year with the meal provided by the Reception Committee. Volunteers are needed to help with publicity, registration, decorations, games, etc.
Communications Committee
The Communications Committee oversees the church’s advertising to the community, the web page, the church pictorial directory and other printed materials. They’ve provided a “press release handbook” which church ministries can use. If you have skills in writing and/or graphic design, offer them to this group!
Fellowship Committee
Greet worshippers as they arrive for church! Help with set-up or clean-up of the Sunday morning coffee service. Bake cookies for a new members reception. Or, help plan the annual church picnic. Any one of these would be a valuable service to the Fellowship Committee’s area of oversight.
Sanctuary Committee
The Sanctuary Committee oversees the preparation of communion elements, arranges for the flowers in the Sanctuary, and regularly restocks the pew racks for Sunday mornings. If caring for God’s House is where your heart is, then the Sanctuary Committee would love to talk with you.
Welcome Committee
If you like giving directions, then offer your services to the Welcome Committee! You can serve as an usher … direct cars in the parking lot … or even staff the Welcome Center, answering our visitors’ questions!
Other Service Opportunities Grounds Workdays
Many volunteers are needed to maintain Memorial Park’s grounds. The team holds monthly work days on the second Saturday morning of the month (spring through fall) to do mulching, trimming, planting, etc. Watch the bulletin for when the “season” begins. Green thumbs are especially needed.
Helping Hands
Men in the church provide home repairs for single moms and the elderly. If you’re a Bob Vila wannabe, get your “fix” with this group!
Kane Hospital Worship Service
Volunteers are needed to help to conduct a worship service at Kane Hospital on the first Sunday afternoon of the month from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. (Those helping gather at Kane at 2:30.)
Mission Ministry
Prayer, Share and Care
This team provides practical and personal support for shut-ins. They have also compiled a handbook of resources about caring for aging relatives (available in the church library).
Reception Committee
Church Hostess Shirley Sedlacek leads this team which provides meals and receptions for church events. Women and men of all ages are welcome to join this team to help to prepare and serve the food.
Taping Ministry
Volunteers are needed on Sunday mornings to make copies of tapes of the sermon (or entire service) for same-day purchase by church attendees. If you can program your VCR, you can do this job – but training will be provided! This is a great area of service for those whose free time on weekdays is limited.
Youth Committee
The Youth Committee meets on the second Monday of the month at 7:15 p.m. at the Clayton Youth Center to provide support and guidance for the church’s ministry to teenagers.
New Member Ministry Team
This ministry team is comprised of men and women who are comfortable meeting new people. The team works directly with the MPC Membership Director to plan, organize, provide and serve refreshments at new member classes.
Other activities include forging relationships with new members through personal meetings and periodic phone calls.

Welcome Team
This team of people is responsible for the Welcome Center , located in the Narthex of the church. Their job is to welcome visitors on Sunday mornings, answer questions, and provide information to those who visit the desk. Some team members are also responsible for baking and stocking the booth with the necessary communication materials.
