The Comparison Trap

Contentment is not the same as happiness. It is the correct understanding of your life and your circumstances, paired with the knowledge that God placed you there. In 1 Corinthians 7, Paul is not primarily addressing marriage and singleness as topics in themselves. He is calling believers to find contentment in the life God has given them so that the gospel remains central. Whether you are single, married, divorced, or widowed, your life is not an accident. God has placed you exactly where you are with purpose. The danger is spending your life focused on what you do not have, because those things will never produce lasting contentment. What produces contentment is knowing that God has you in the palm of His hand and has given you the gift of your life to use for His glory.
